YES! Auditions:
Admission to YES! is open all season long. Students may come to any YES! rehearsal to discuss this with the Conductor, Ms. Christy Baisinger. Minimum requirements for participation are:
Typically students are through Book 2 of a Strings Book Series.
Students can play flats.
Cellists know extension positions.
The audition will consist of playing scales, a short prepared piece and sight-reading.
YYSO Auditions: Strings
1) Scales: 1 major scale and 1 minor scale (melodic form). Each scale must include at least three or more sharps or flats, two to three octaves and played at quarter note = 60-80, playing 16th notes (slur or separate notes are fine).
2) Solo of your choice: 2 to 3 minutes. Please prepare a solo piece of your choice for your instrument that demonstrates your musical and technical ability.
3) Sight-reading excerpt
Time limit for each audition: no more than 10 minutes
YYSO Auditions: Woodwinds and Brass
1)Scales: 1 major scale and 1 minor scale (melodic form). Each scale must include at least three or more sharps or flats, two to three octaves and played at quarter note = 60-80, playing 16th notes
2) Excerpts/Solo: Please prepare a solo piece/etude of your choice for your instrument that demonstrates your musical and technical ability.

YYSO Auditions: Percussion
1)Solos: Percussion students should perform two or three solos (2-3 minutes each) that demonstrate technical and artistic ability. One solo must be on a keyboard instrument and another on either snare drum and/or timpani. Advanced students are encouraged to demonstrate a wide range of ability.
2) Please bring: Percussionists must bring mallets and sticks to the audition. All percussion instruments and other equipment will be available.
